In many areas of the United States, a building inspector is also known as a structural engineer. In Canada, an inspector is generally referred to as a home inspector. In general, it is the inspector’s job to inspect structures such as apartment buildings, industrial buildings, schools, colleges, hospitals, motels, and privately-owned residential homes to determine the general condition of the structure. The purpose of the inspection is to ensure that the building functions properly for its intended purpose.
